Meet Mary

Behind Mary Sardine is a real environmental advocate with a deep commitment to protecting the natural world around us.
Mary works through Earth Ethics Action, bringing environmental education and advocacy into conversations about the land, water, wildlife, and development decisions affecting our communities.
At Life of a Sardine, Mary helps us do something especially important: understand the science behind the story.
Mary’s Field Notes
Development is about more than houses, roads, and property lines. What happens above ground can change what happens below it—and what happens downstream.
In Mary’s Field Notes, we will take a closer look at the environmental questions affecting Northwest Florida: water quality, wetlands, stormwater, native habitat, wildlife corridors, trees, soil, flooding, conservation, and the cumulative effects of development.
Some subjects will begin with a simple question. Others may take us into maps, environmental reports, public records, field observations, photographs, and scientific research.
The goal is not to tell people what to think.
It is to give them enough information to look closer, ask better questions, and understand what may be at stake before decisions become permanent.
Observe. Educate. Protect. Restore.
Welcome to Mary’s Field Notes.
